Lang sues ex-manager for ‘fraud’

Singer kd lang is suing her ex-manager for allegedly taking fees from the musician’s account without her consent.

Canadian singer lang, whose hits include Constant Craving, claims Annabel Lapp drew cheques from her business account without permission.

Ms Lapp represented lang from 1990 until September, when the singer terminated her contract.

The case said the total allegedly taken cannot be determined as Ms Lapp has not given back all lang’s financial books.

The action filed by lang with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday is against Ms Lapp, her company the Annabel Lapp Group and Lapp Group employee Dina Correale.

It is seeking unspecified compensation and damages.

It also alleges that Ms Lapp wrote cheques totalling $22,000 (£12,600) from lang’s accounts without the singer’s consent after her contract was terminated.

The action says lang paid Ms Lapp for the boxing and shipment of all her files but was only given business records for the last two years.

Singer lang claims the failure to provide full records meant she could not complete an investigation of Ms Lapp’s conduct during the previous 14 years of her representation.

Ms Lapp could not be reached for comment on the claims.

The star has released a series of acclaimed album, including 1992’s Ingenue and All You Can Eat.

Her most recent offering, last year’s Hymns of the 49th Parallel, saw her cover fellow Canadian stars including Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.
